Traveling the world by land with my wolf best friend. // California --> Patagonia from 2015-2018 // South Africa --> Europe from 2018-?
totorothevan Happy New Years instagram. Just a quick update! As many of you know... I've been stuck in Colombia for the last year saving up money, learning Spanish, and building this beast for my future travels to Argentina and beyond. It's been almost two and a half years since I embarked on this adventure from California to Argentina, and it's honestly beginning to look a lot more like an odyssey. So much for a year there and back! They say the only dangerous part about colombia is never wanting to leave, and for once "they" are right! Still, as much as I love it here I can't forget how big this world is and how much left there is to be explored. I'm hitting the road as soon as I finish my projects sometime in April or May. Meanwhile, you can follow the build progress @fredoniatheambulance if you want to stay in the loop. See you all then. Feliz año nuevo! - Miles
totorothevan My eyes are shut because I'm actually crying. Totoro's new owners came to pick him up today. Felt like sending my kid to summer camp for the first time, only he's never coming back from this one 😭 I've had so many amazing adventures crossing the 🌎 with my old friend. Haven't been this in love with anything since my ex girlfriend. Pretty damn sad that's over now. That said, I'm excited for the new life he's about to embark on and all the joy he's about to bring his companions. I'll be giving the old IG a little break while I sort things out for part 2 - South America and beyond in my new vehicle @fredoniatheambulance THANK YOU for joining me this far!!! Hope everyone will dig what's in store next #vanlife #over
totorothevan Beach day at San Onofre with the van the last time! 😭😭😭
totorothevan Two years without AC. Finally getting it installed for the new owner. Go figures! Also, first time having Vietnamese/asians work on my van. There's a language barrier but luckily I've found mechanics is universal. Both interesting new experiences
totorothevan "So Miles what have you done in the couple years since graduating college?" Me: "umm"
totorothevan Me at the port today: "can I have my van?" / "sure, no problem. Just need to finalize some documents" / three hours later... / "all good to go. We're just waiting for you to pay $12 currency conversion fee in colombia." / "ok, here." / "no sorry, it needs to be paid in colombia and we're closed. You'll have to come back tomorrow" // meanwhile, this is the tropical storm warning I just received. FML
totorothevan Channeling my inner Jesus to teleport myself back to this tiny island in the Caribbean 💆♂️🙌💥
totorothevan My fellow (north) Americans, I'm back! On my way to Houston to unload the van and then road tripping back to California next week to get it ready for the sale. Not sure about my route yet. If anybody wants to meet up or share good food spots or recommend some must sees holla at your boy! Honestly, just looking forward to flat land, BBQ, Mexican food, and pretending to have a southern accent and saying "god bless" at the end of every conversation. God bless!
totorothevan Honestly, just following this chick wherever she goes. It just happened to be the highest peak on the island today
totorothevan Finished shipping the van and now escaping to the little known Colombian paradise Providencia, just off the coast of Nicaragua! Phone is going off in t minus a few hours until I leave
totorothevan Longest I've been away from my perro since I got him a couple years ago. 😭
totorothevan Filled to the brim with my retirement plan and all ready to go to the US ❄️❄️❄️ 😏
totorothevan We interrupt your regular programming to bring you this news: I bought a new car. This one is a beautiful 1980 FJ40 built by @40sgarage / if everything goes to plan, I'll own it for a month before delivering it to its new owners in Rhode Island. Woo looking forward to my hopefully brief and tasty ownership
totorothevan Six months later. Back. This time going the other way. I love this city!
totorothevan Inside the belly of the beast today replacing old CV boots. A lot of people look at this old van, and say, "that thing is cute". Little do they know it's got the heart of a Bostig Ford Focus and 5 feet of quarter inch steel skid plates like the under armor of a light tank. There's a reason these things were made in Austria at the same factory Pinzgauer was fabricating armored personnel carriers and tanks - they're tough! The Toyota will be an improvement in some ways. Mainly, the power from the 4.5L hog of a motor, the giant tires, the lower range gear box, availability of parts and the utilitarian design of everything. But, with the same leaf springs essentially used in horse and wagon carts and the smaller interior, it'll be a real step down in other ways. Anyway, guess my point is "don't judge a book by its cover" and love everyone and blah blah blah
