Yes, I'd love it if you'd start with MY book, but I would be happy if you'd at least give one indy author per year a chance. Because, you just never know.

historytrekking The Battle of Kings Mountain was a major turning point in the American Revolution. It was here that the American patriot militia handily defeated the Loyalist militia commanded by Scottish Major Patrick Ferguson, a veritable war hero of the British army. The patriots surprised the loyalists, who had been heading to the safety of Cornwallis’s larger army. For about an hour the militia mercilessly stormed the ridge initially held by the loyalists and eventually surrounded them at the spot pictured here. The loyalists surrendered when Major Ferguson was killed. The battle was pivotal to the southern campaign of the American Revolution as it forced Cornwallis to abandon his push into North Carolina and instead retreat into South Carolina. The battlefield is part of the present day Kings Mountain National Military Park, which includes a 1.5 mile battlefield hike as well as other trails. The park is about an hour south of Charlotte. #history #historic #historybuff #kingsmountain #revolution #military #militaryhistory #americanrevolution #revolutionarywar #battlefield #historylover #historypics #patriotism #patriotic #usa #america #war #historynerd #schistory #southcarolina #northcarolina #charlotte #visitsc #battle #historical

derekanthony123 Battle of Lexington memorial, Lexington, MA. Following the battle, the British retreated to Bunker Hill, losing scores of men along the way. These days, people throw pennies at the monument. bubbleandgeek What's your favorite city that you have visited? This scent, The Greatest City in the World, refers to New York City (as heard in the Hamilton musical). It smells like a blend of candied nuts, roasted coffee with sugar, pretzels, salt water, and old buildings. Thank you so much to @wildandwonderfulreads for this photo!

lostinthe18thcentury I love this runaway ad. I’ve read Wives, Slaved, and Servant Girls about 10 times now and I never fail to find something new. I love the details about her purple sprigged gown, marrying the butcher’s apprentice and running off with another wife to the Connecticut regiment. I wonder what happened to her. I can’t help but hope that she made it to the army camp and found some sense of agency with them. #runawayad #18thcentury #colonialamerica #americanrevolution

beautifulseeasia Let's talk loves... So #NJ being instrumental in the #AmericanRevolution as a chill and recover spot for the alleged Chief & Commander, GW. But one of the last states to ratify the 13th amendment and in a medium space regarding #slavery is in a huge shift. Too much at the expense of quality of life & expensively educated kids retarded by educational bureaucracy. What's your thoughts of this list? Work must be done first but my limbo has grown and before we jump ship from #America altogether, add on about the top states to retire! BTW despite how uncertain times are I'm actually excited about the constance of learning my old young ass STILL must do 😵😲😆 #theexodus #broaderhorizons #byeNJ #AGAIN #Blackyankee #Blackpatriot #byeAmerica #AGAIN

fort.stanwix.nps Happy birthday John Burgoyne! “Gentleman” John Burgoyne was a general in the British military, best known for his attempt to divide the 13 Colonies in two during the American Revolution. His plan was executed in 1777, and resulted in both the Siege of Fort Schuyler and Surrender of British forces at Saratoga. Aside from being a career military man, Burgoyne was also a author of several noted plays in England. #OTD 24 February 1722 #HappyBirthday #HBD #TDiH #OnThisDay #AmericanRevolution #RevolutionaryWar #History 🎂 🎉 🎈

taraross1787 On this day in 1778, Baron von Steuben arrives at #ValleyForge. His task? To better train and organize the soldiers in the #American army. Steuben was a former Prussian officer who’d been looking for work. He’d found himself meeting with Silas Deane and #BenjaminFranklin, the American ambassadors to France. He was told he could go to America as a volunteer, but he’d have to earn his own pay and rank. It took several months, but Steuben eventually made it to America with a letter of introduction from Franklin. The Continental Congress sent Steuben to meet with General #GeorgeWashington, then in winter camp at Valley Forge. Steuben later described the army that he found there. “No European army,” he said, “could have held together in such circumstances.” The Prussian got to work. The army had not been trained in any kind of organized way. Or, sometimes, men had been trained, but differently in different states. Fighting in those days was harder than you might think, partly because the weapons took so much time load and fire. Coordination was needed to be effective. Steuben’s efforts paid off. When the Army left Valley Forge, it was far more organized and professional than it had been. Steuben also created a drill manual. This “Blue Book” became the first manual for the #UnitedStates #Army and remained in use until 1812! Steuben not only improved the army then existing at Valley Forge. He created a system whereby the army was better for the rest of the #Revolution—and beyond. We often hear about the sufferings at Valley Forge—and there were many. But there were benefits, too. Time spent with Steuben was one of them.
