architectural engineering firm since 1966
silman.structural We had fun creating a short video to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Watch it via the link in our profile.
silman.structural Happy New Year! We're excited about this New Year's Day because Bob Silman opened the firm 50 years ago today. 🎂
silman.structural Landscape with hard hat. View from the ferry landing on the way back to the office from a site visit to Hunters Point Community Library. They did the first exterior wall pour today.
silman.structural work in progress...
silman.structural From our slide archives: a beautiful shot of 10 Stamford Forum in Connecticut. The office building was designed by #mitchellgiurgola's New York office and was the subject of a 1981 Times article on office buildings that act as urban gateways. We like that Postmodern round opening that reveals the parking space on the first four floors.
silman.structural Of course someone in our office would do this with pumpkins. 🎃 The Leaning Tower of Pumpkin: this year's winner in the category of Structural Ingenuity.
silman.structural #allcustomeverything: The exposed cross-bracing in the #newwhitney lobby displays the building #structure front and west. The solid steel round columns, hollow round x-braces, and custom @cast_connex pin gusset connections were designed to carry large gravity and lateral forces from the building above, all while keeping with the theme of the lobby #architecture.
silman.structural The new #whitneymuseum, #archtober's #buildingoftheday, boasts the largest column-free gallery space in New York City, a gallery that carries four stories of building above. This is achieved with a combination of 46-inch-deep plate girders and a series of full-story trusses. The result is an open, flexible space for a new experience through every exhibit. #renzopianobuildingworkshop #cooperrobertson Photo ©Nic Lehoux
silman.structural Intricate acoustic isolation prevents the subway that runs nearby from interfering with performances at #tfana at Polonsky Shakespeare Center. A particularly inventive move to accomplish this involved putting an 8-inch-thick layer of sand on top of the mat slab and around rubber vibration isolators, and then pouring the isolated slab on top. Once the slab was cured, the sand was vacuumed out. #archtober #buildingoftheday #h3hardy
silman.structural @stevenhollarchitects were inspired by play diagrams when designing the new Campbell Sports Center at Baker Field. Today the new building welcomes students and alumni alike for Homecoming 2015. We like this one because all of the structure is exposed. #roarlionroar #stevenhollarchitects #stevenholl
silman.structural Two decades ago Bob Silman and his team determined that the Tobacco Warehouse in #DUMBO could be maintained as a stabilized ruin, preserving it until the right arts institution, #stannswarehouse, and the right architect, @marvelarchitects, came along to bring it new life. Pictured here is artist #tomfruin's custom theater signage. Congrats to the theater on its new home, which opens tomorrow.
