angrypandaisfitness Flex Friday goes to Sir Mohamed Mukhtar Jama “Mo” Farah, CBE. A British distance runner, on the track, he mostly competes over 5000 metres and 10,000 metres, but has run competitively from 1500 metres to the marathon. The most successful British track athlete in modern Olympic Games history, he is the 2012 and 2016 Olympic gold medallist in both the 5000 m and 10,000 m, and is the second athlete in modern Olympic Games history, after Lasse Virén, to successfully defend the 5000 m and 10,000 m titles. Farah also completed the ‘distance double’ at the 2013 and 2015 World Championships in Athletics. He was the second man in history after Kenenisa Bekele, to win long-distance doubles at successive Olympics and World Championships, and the first in history to defend both distance titles in both major global competitions - a feat described as the ‘quadruple-double’. Farah’s unbeaten streak in global distance finals runs to 9, having finished 2nd in the 10,000 metres at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics; as of 2017 he has won every global final at either distance since that date. He is the most decorated athlete in British athletics history, with nine global titles, and was the first British athlete to win two gold medals at the same world championships. His five gold medals at the European Athletics Championships make him the most successful individual athlete in championships history. He has won the European Athlete of the Year award and the British Athletics Writers Association British Athlete of the Year award more than any other athlete, three times and six times respectively. angrypandaisfitness Was thinking this week when seeing newbies lifting. It is fundamental to get the basics right, not to jump into something that looks like will give you gains. No, get the pressing and pulling motion correct. Get that mind muscle connection down. The weight will come but form is important. Also “SQUAT” as you should never skip leg day, and squat is a great overall development.

angrypandaisfitness Flex Friday goes to Simone Biles. An American artistic gymnast, Biles is the 2016 Olympic individual all-around, vault and floor gold medalist. She was part of the gold medal-winning team dubbed the “Final Five” at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. She also won the bronze medal for the balance beam during the Olympics. Biles is a three-time world all-around champion (2013–15), three-time world floor champion (2013–15), two-time world balance beam champion (2014, 2015), four-time United States national all-around champion (2013–16), and a member of the gold medal-winning American teams at the 2014 and 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Having won a combined total of nineteen Olympic and World Championship medals, Biles is the most decorated American gymnast, taking over from Shannon Miller, who had held this record since 1996. With her win in Rio, Biles became the sixth woman to have won an individual all-around title at both the World Championships and the Olympic Games. Fitness has been a big part of the Panda’s life and a drive also. But the big drive is seeing people develop and illustrating the process and journey in which to do that.
